Table Salt: The White Poison

Today when we hear the term “salt” we immediately think of the formula that we learned in school: NaCl. According to that formula, salt consists of only two elements, sodium and chloride. This was not always the case, however. In the past, what we called salt, otherwise known as “white gold”, was composed of a total of 84 different elements. Unfortunately, the salt that we use today has been refined, which eliminates the other 82 elements. As it turns out, this seemingly innocuous change poses a very serious threat to our health.

Sodium Chloride is Toxic

The main reason why sodium chloride (i.e. salt) has been used as a preservative is because it is extremely toxic. Even germs and bacteria, which are by nature extremely resilient, cannot defend themselves against sodium chloride. But this is not the reason why sodium chloride is so dangerous to us. The problem is that the human body is only capable of breaking down between 5 and 7 grams of sodium chloride per day. The average person, however, takes in around 20 grams per day due to all of the salt added to processed foods. And that doesn’t even include what has been sprinkled on the food afterwards from the salt shaker! All of this excess sodium chloride spreads throughout the body with disastrous results.

How Sodium Chloride Affects Our Body

When we ingest sodium chloride, our body identifies the toxic molecules as a threat and attempts to eliminate that threat by capturing them with water. Unfortunately, the body taps into our vital cell water in order to accomplish this. This ultimately leads to cell shrinkage, and can result in the accumulation of excess water in the legs.

The danger of table salt doesn’t end there, however – it also leads to the demineralization of the cells in the body. The body attempts to correct this and regain the minerals that were lost in the refining process that created the sodium chloride by utilizing 2000 different chemicals. This process, which is also triggered by other processed foods such as flour, oil and sugar, is not typically successful, and that means the body is in a constant state of mineral deficiency. Despite the fact that the food we eat contains all the minerals we typically need including iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium, the ingestion of excess table salt throws our body out of balance and causes a dangerous mineral deficiency.

Ditch the Table Salt and use Natural Salt Instead

Unlike refined table salt, which only contains the elements sodium and chloride, natural salt contains 84 different elements. These 84 elements happen to be the very same elements that our bodies are made of. For that reason, when we ingest natural salt (otherwise known as rock salt or salt crystals) it never causes an imbalance in our bodies, because it is not viewed as a toxic threat, unlike sodium chloride (table salt).

So the next time your food needs a little seasoning, make sure you reach for the natural salt. Your body will thank you!
