Chargers: Essential For Today\’s Battery-Operated Lifestyle

A battery is an integral and irreplaceable part of most modern devices such as mobile phones, gaming devices, and even vehicles. There are technically two types of batteries: those that can only be used once and then discarded, and those that can be used multiple times and can be recharged once the energy is drained. Most applications now make use of the second type of battery, and with this increase in rechargeable battery usage so has the need for more battery chargers skyrocketed. Because rechargeable batteries need electric currents to reverse the chemical reactions that happen when the battery is being used, a charger acts as a medium that forces electric current into a device and through which the current flows.

There are several types of battery chargers that are commonly used in daily life:

* Simple charger – because it is inexpensive, this type of charger is often less desirable than other charger types because of its lengthy charging time. A battery being charged using a simple charger is more prone to over-charger than batteries using other charger types. The simple charger also works with an unaltered output through supplying a constant voltage or current to the battery.

* Trickle charger – this type of charger is the most common type of charger found on automobiles and other forms of transportation. Trickle charging allows a battery to remain fully charged because the charger supplies energy to the battery at the same rate with which it is being drained of energy or discharged while in use.

* Timer-based charger – has a predetermined time for the termination of charging. Batteries that recharged using this type of charger were also more prone to overcharging.

* Intelligent charger – is referred to as such because of its flexibility in adjusting to a battery\’s specific charging needs. This type of charger also has a much faster charging time than the other types since it would typically be able to give up 85% recharged capacity to a battery for an hour or less of charging time.

* Pulse charger – this works by feeding a series of strictly controlled DC pulses to a battery. Pulse charging allows for high voltages to be sent instantaneously to a battery without the danger of overheating.

* Solar charger – perhaps the most recent and sustainable type of charger, this works by converting the sun\’s energy into electrical current. You would normally be able to find a portable solar charger in any store, although there are also some solar chargers that can be mounted. The mounted ones are often referred to as solar panels and are more commonly used in homes and other fixed structures, whereas the portable types are more commonly found in cars, motorcycles, boats, trucks, RVs, and other devices that are often in motion.

Since a charger has become essential to most facets of human life, you would normally be able to find one type of charger or another being sold in many stores all throughout the world. These products also abound on the internet, where you would normally be able to choose the type of charger that you can purchase based on photos and specifications provided by the vendors.
