A graphic tee, like neckties and cuff links, sounds like something that only guys under (or over, as the case may be) a certain age can wear. Good style, however, knows no age, and a graphic tee can look as good on you as on another man ten years younger. The right tee worn with the right outfit is a casual yet tasteful choice, no matter how old you might be.

Less is More
Men’s fashion makes more than sufficient use of the maxim, but it bears repeating just for graphic tees. Fit-wise, the standards are pretty simple. It should be the same length as any of your other casual tees, that is, ending at around mid-zipper. Longer shirts look funny, shorter ones will seem like they were bought from the kids’ department. Even toned or buff men will also want to avoid fitted shirts because all the muscle showing distracts from the graphic. Slim – not tight – should be just right.

Find yourself other pieces that frame the print on the graphic tee and keep the viewer looking at a particular area. An open vest, cardigan or sport coat would be prime options, as they effectively emphasize the blank space that they leave in the middle of your torso. The trick works when you want to emphasize a bold necktie or bow tie. It will work for training the limelight on the fun graphic that’s on your t-shirt.

Graphic tees are by no means exclusively for the 18-under fashion set. They’re just as cool a style statement for the 20- and 30-something crowd as well. More mature men will simply have to promote the graphic tee into something more age-appropriate.
