He has held offensive coordinator positions with the Rams, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. Martz has been gathering new players to fit into his scheme, including running back Chester Taylor and tight end Brandon Manumaleuna. The new editions add depth to positions that already have stars with Matt Forte at running back and Greg Olsen at tight end.

Shane Day, Quarterbacks Coach: Another coach to gain experience in San Francisco, Shane Day was the Niners’ quality control coach before coming to the Windy City. While there, he worked with quarterbacks, running backs and the offensive line. Prior to his time with the 49ers, he was the quality control coach at the University of Michigan. He has a Pro Bowl quarterback to work with in Jay Cutler, but Cutler needs grooming to reach his full potential in 2010.

Mike DeBord, Tight Ends Coach: DeBord had the same position with the Seattle Seahawks last season and was their offensive line coach in 2008. Like Day, he was also a coach at the University of Michigan, where he spent 12 seasons. He was also the head coach of Central Michigan from 2000-2003. The combination of Olsen and Manumaleuna should provide him with enough firepower to make an impact at the tight end position.

Mike Tice, Offensive Line Coach: Tice is yet another name on the Bears’ coaching staff with NFL head coaching experience. He was the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 2002-2005. Prior to being head coach, he also coached the Vikings’ offensive line and tight ends. Tice has also been on the staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bears’ offensive line is an intriguing mix of proven veterans and young talent, and Tice could be the one to take the line to the next level.
