Making Friends All Day: My Job as a Medical Assistant
“My medical assistant is amazing. She is so organized and she really is really meticulous.” I overheard Dr. Johannsen tell another doctor. It’s not that I am eavesdropping or something,I was just passing by to drop off some papers to another clinic. I have worked for her for almost ten years now. This was my first job and my last hopefully. I am very satisfied working for her. Dr. Johannsen is a pediatrician.
“Therese, please hold my afternoon appointments until two in the afternoon. I will be at the OR performing an emergency surgery.” Dr. Johannsen said.
“No problem doctor. I will take care of it.” I replied
Dr. Johannsen is a popular doctor. Her clinic is always full of patients but so far they always understand how hectic her schedule is. I often engage myself in a small talk here and there with almost all her patients.
“Hello, Sandy,” I greeted one patient’s mother. “Dr. Johannsen is at the operating room right now and she won’t be back until two in the afternoon.”
“Oh that’s too bad. My daughter has a nasty cough here.” Sandy said. “Well could you just add me up on your list there I will be back after lunch.”
“Sure no problem, you will be the first patient the doctor will see later.” I said as I took out her daughter’s files. “Will Amy step on the weighing scale so that we could update her weight?”
Sandy’s daughter stepped on the scale. She is an eleven year old girl who looks like she is coming down with flu.
“Now, Amy, let’s check your temperature.” I said as I jotted down her weight on her file. As the record show, Amy never gained any weight since she was 10. Maybe she needs to take some vitamins, I thought. “Amy, it looks like you are a little feverish. Be sure to take lots of vitamin C, ok?” The little girl smiled and nodded in agreement.
“Well, Sandy, are you going to use your insurance policy for this checkup?” I asked.
Sandy fumbled in her bag and handed me her card. “Thanks Tadacip for reminding me, Therese.”
“No problem. Now please fill out this form.”
Several patients came in after Sandy, I listed their names so that the doctor could examine them later. This job is very easy and it feels like I have known these patients all their life. Some of the children started in this clinic since they were babies and now they are almost a teenager just like Amy.
I memorize almost all of them so pulling out their files is not that difficult. On my free time, I would look at their files and try to memorize their faces and even medical history at times. This way I could address Brand Levitra them more personally. Patients like it when you remember their names. It makes them feel like you take interest in them and makes them trust you, too. Kids usually have trust issues and they do not just succumb to anybody telling them what to do. So far, I have succeeded to befriend each kid who opts for a checkup here.
