NFL Tickets – Top Fantasy Tight Ends for 2010

Tight end may not be the flashiest position on your fantasy team, but they can still be crucial. To round out your team, you need a consistent playmaker that can turn in a big game every now and again to help put you over the top. Here’s a look at the top tight ends available this season.

5. Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons. In 2009, his first year in Atlanta, Gonzalez had a relative down year, though he still put up 867 yards receiving and six touchdowns. Some may not be willing to draft him in the top five, instead looking to Brent Celek or Owen Daniels, but Gonzalez remains a very consistent target and has a strong quarterback in Matt Ryan throwing him the ball.

4. Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys. The only issue here is that Tony Romo has so many other weapons. Still, it’s unlikely that Witten will have only two touchdowns again in 2010 and he remains Romo’s most reliable target in the middle of the field. Witten also comes off a career season in which he grabbed 94 balls and racked up 1,030 yards receiving. It’s unlikely that he can challenge the top tight ends in the league in terms of statistical output, but he still is a dominant player who appears to be in his Viagra Jelly prime.

3. Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers. Davis came on strong last year and finally showed off the unbelievable natural gifts that he possesses. In 2010, quarterback Alex Smith should continue his development after a fairly decent 2009 season. Davis also remains the 49ers’ number one redzone target after grabbing 13 touchdowns in 2009 – tops out of all tight ends. With the potential to be at the top of the list by the end of the season, you can’t go wrong with Davis.

2. Dallas Clark, Indianapolis Colts. In leagues that reward a point for every catch, Clark could actually be number one. Clark had a ridiculous 100 catches in 2009, which was among the tops in the league for all receivers and not just tight ends. With Peyton Manning still throwing the ball his way, Clark should continue to be a very consistent threat and a top-tier option at tight end. Though Clark doesn’t directly sell too many NFL tickets, he’s one of the main reasons the Colts’ offense continues to be so good.

1. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers. Gates is still the most skilled player at the position, and a favorite target of Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. He also led all tight ends with 1,157 yards receiving in 2009 and added eight touchdowns as well, marking the sixth consecutive season he has had at least eight touchdowns. Nobody is a tougher cover than Gates and there’s no reason to think he’ll slow down in 2010.

Other good options:
Brent Celek, Philadelphia Eagles. Many will value Celek as one of the top tight ends in the league, which makes sense considering he had 76 catches and eight touchdowns in 2009. Celek is very talented – there is no question cialis price about that – but he also has an inexperienced quarterback in Kolb throwing him the ball. This should work out in the long-term but 2010 should have plenty of valleys to along with the peaks.

Owen Daniels, Houston Texans. Daniels was the number one fantasy tight end in the league when he went out with a torn ACL last season. With Matt Schaub throwing him the ball, he still could return to challenge the other top tight ends in the league, but his knee is a serious risk. You can probably scoop up Daniels for a very good value in the later rounds after the other tight ends have been taken.
