How To Decorate Your Townhome With Pizzazz
When my spouse and I purchased our townhome in northern Utah, it felt as though we were getting into a mansion–at least compared to the string of dinky apartments we had rented for the first few years of marriage.
But if you have ever lived in a townhouse, you know that the space is actually quite modest. Because of the normal construction of a townhome, they are often difficult to decorate, as spaces either become choppy or blend together too much.
However, if you are willing to get creative and integrate advice from others who have been there (like me), your townhouse can still feel like the mansion you imagined it was from the very start.
First, let me just say: lighting, lighting, LIGHTING! Plenty of light, both natural and artificial, is bound to make any space feel bigger than it is. Cover your windows with white shutters or blinds so that even when you need to block out the intense summer sun, you don’t totally blot out the natural lighting and make your home feel stifled.
Adding extra lighting can be particularly beneficial in the stairwell. The ceiling above our stairwell is extremely high, and strategically adding extra light and large pieces of artwork to the walls has emphasized this dramatic area in our home, and even though the stairs aren’t our favorite place to hang out, it still causes people to pause whenever they head up to the bathroom or office.
Second, Brand Cialis make use of lighter colors to again make each room seem more spacious. If you are fond of Silagra darker shades, then you may want to apply them only to “accent walls” in your home. But even then, one light shade–or neutral tones, like beige and taupe–can lengthen the gaze to make a room seem longer.
Don’t divide space unnecessarily. For example, many townhomes have a dining “nook” or at least an extension of the kitchen which serves as a separate dining spot.
Rather than creating a choppy separation with different decor, make the kitchen and dining area streamlined by using the same paint and the same style throughout, though you can conserve space by opting for a pub-style table rather than a traditional elongated dining table.
That is not to say that you should always select smaller furniture. In fact, trying to do so can often make your townhome appear more cluttered. But that doesn’t mean you should go for overlarge couches and enormous entertainment centers, either. Just pick the furniture you love! But make sure you have a tape measure before you buy.
Have some fun with your furnishings. My spouse built a bookshelf that fits perfectly against part of the staircase. It’s a beautiful piece, and it doesn’t take up much space at all! With a little imagination, you can make anything happen.
