Understanding Teenage Love – Should Parents Limit Teen Relationships?
Teenage love is something that everyone goes through in his or her life. Some people express their love and some people do not. The reasons could be shyness to express themselves, hesitancy or the fear of getting rejected. But even though the teens are very happy during this phase of their life, parents are very sceptical about teenage love and they always try to keep a check on their kids to know what they are doing and where they are going around. And they, in some way, are right too in expressing their reservations for teenage love. So let us see how they are justified in the actions that they take to keep a check on teenage love.
1. Teenagers are not aware of the reality of life. They really do not know what the outside world really is like. To them, everything is a fairyland and that is because of their age. So parents, in their way, try to bring them back to the real world through their prohibitive actions.
2. What teenage love is actually? It is just a physical attraction. And the teenagers should not be blamed for that in any way because it is not their fault. It is the hormones that are going through the transformation stage of being a young semi-adult from a kid which makes them do that. But this is something that the kids fail to understand and gets distracted. Only once when they get out of their teen years and look back, they are able to understand this fact.
3. Kids tend to have sex when they are in love during their teen years, atleast ninety percent of the kids do. It might not be very common in India or Asian countries but it is very common in western countries.
4. Teenage love can, at times, put the kids through depression which in turn might get them exposed to harmful addictions like drugs and alcohol. These addictions would not only affect their health but it will also affect their future and tarnish their image in the society.
5. Most of the teenagers fall in love with each other only to have sex. They do not have any intentions of having or building any serious relationship through teenage love.
6. The academics of the kids get affected because of teenage love and they are less able to concentrate on lectures in class and their grades go down.
7. I am not sure whether this is a proven or fact or not but most of these teenagers fall in love with a person who is just not the right person for them. And by the time they realise it, they are half devastated.
8. Their attitude or behaviour towards the family becomes very unfriendly and rude. This is probably because the kids think that they are grown ups and they know to make their own decisions and they do not need anyone else to advise or suggest them on their personal issues and matters.
These are some of the reasons why parents limit teen relationships and teenage love but they should also ensure that they do not over do this as that would create frustration and anger among the kids.
