Celebrate a New Baby With a Pink and Blue Baby Shower

Will it be a boy or will it be a girl? That is always the number one question when a new baby’s impending arrival is announced. Some parents want to know beforehand but some still want to be surprised. So what do you do if the mom and dad to be want to be surprised, you throw them a pink and blue baby shower.

I’ve read several theories about the color pink and blue and why blue is associated with boys and pink is associated with girls. In the early days pink was considered a boys color and blue was considered a girls color. Somewhere about the 1940’s, that changed. Blue was considered a strong color and therefore associated with boys. Pink was considered a soft and delicate color and associated with girls. The reasons are unclear and have changed over the years but the standard for now is pink for girls and blue for boys.

A pink and blue baby shower is a wonderful celebration of a new life about to come into the world and a way for family and friends to help the parents have the best dressed baby on the block, especially if it is baby number one. If you are planning a pink and blue baby shower, I have a few ideas to help you out.

The guest list should include family members from both sides of the family as well as family friends. Proud grandma and grandpa may have friends they would like to invite also. And why not, the more the merrier. If the mom to be has registered at a baby gift store, that will make picking out gifts easy for everybody. If not, have the mom to be write up a list of gifts she would like for the baby. The list may also include color preferences. Include the baby gift store or wish list with the invitation.

Decide where you want to hold the baby shower. It can be a room in a restaurant or a room in someone’s house. The venue doesn’t need to be an expensive place but big enough to accommodate the invited guests. When deciding on a place, keep in mind the age of the guests invited. If there will be aunts from an older generation, stairs may be an issue. If someone is in a wheelchair, accessibility will be an issue. If possible, pick a place that is centrally located for most of the guests.

It is not necessary to host a pink and blue baby shower with a sit down dinner, unless you want to. Refreshments can be something simple such as sandwiches and desserts and maybe a hot dish or two such as meatballs or chicken wings. It will probably be a reunion for family members and friends that haven’t seen one another in a while so there will be a lot of catching up going on as well. The important thing is provide an atmosphere that is fun and entertaining for all.
