Sohren Germany

In the Rhineland-Palatinate of Germany you will find the town of Sohren. This town which is the second largest town of the Verbandsgemeinde Kirchberg is situated in the Rhein-HunsrÜck region. As you explore this town you will find that a pretty stream flows through the town. Later this stream merges with the Sohrbach which is a tributary of the River Kyrbachs.

The town of Sohren is a quiet and serene place that you can stay in. You will find this charming little town has some interesting places that you can visit. Once you have seen this fabulous toy shop you many want to turn your attention to the Jewish Cemetery which is located near the northeast side of Sohren. This quiet cemetery is enclosed by lovely Birch trees. In all likelihood the cemetery may have been created sometime before 1850. When you visit the cemetery you will find there are many graves from that time right up until 1965. In this cemetery you will see there is a wide center aisle and the tombstones are arranged on either side of this aisle.

While the tombstones are weathered they are still in excellent condition. On some of the tombstones you will see engraved hands. These handprints are known as the Blessing of the Kohanim hands. In 1992 the Sohren Jewish cemetery was turned into a historical monument which allows visitors to not only pay their respects but to understand how the lives of these Sohren inhabitants influenced the town and its culture.

With your tour of the Sohren Jewish cemetery complete you should take a tour around the town. While you are thus looking at the various landmarks which can be seen here you should take a look at the religious buildings of this town. Of these you should visit the Lutheran Church. This church is of the pre-Reformation origin. As time passed, the church has changed from being used by one religious community to two. By 1907 the church was used in tandem with the Protestant and Catholic communities. As you look through this church you will find that the oldest parts of the church are from the 15th century. The Sohren Catholic Church which you will also see in your Sohren tour was built in 1907.
