Now that you know about image files, you need to look at the size of the image. If you have an image that you have not yet considered cropping this may be something you should look into. There are a lot of wasteful images around when it comes to size, and cropping an image allows you to focus on what is important in it. It also helps with download size, again making your web page more effective.

Whether you are doing the work or the task is being completed by a professional designer, it is not the most difficult thing in the world to run your image through some photo manipulation software and crop it so that it fits into a web page better and promotes quicker access to the site.

What is perhaps important to grasp here is that when visitors come to your site, they don’t want to hang around unless it causes them no bother. This means they want to see the site as quickly as possible. Gone are the days when it would take minutes to download a web page, but surfers are more savvy now, not to mention more impatient. So take the time to ensure that you are using the right image file for your site, and that you are doing your very best to ensure that the images that finally end up on your site are not responsible for the site slowing down every time someone accesses it.
