Different Types of Alarm Systems
Home security is very important to most people and they will do whatever they can in order to protect their properties and their possessions. There are many different types of alarm systems that you can purchase.
Many people choose to have a burglar alarm in order to deter thieves. There are two main types of burglar alarm available, Bells Only or Monitored. Most home owners choose a Bells Only alarm. This works by setting off an alarm when someone enters the property and does not enter the correct code within a set amount of time. The sound of the alarm is usually enough to scare the intruder away. However if you are not there then you are reliant on someone else calling the police for you.
A Monitored alarm is different in the fact that it is connected to a central monitoring center. This system is manned twenty four hours a day. When the alarm is activated the central monitoring center is notified and they will call you. If the alarm goes off accidentally then you can give them a code word or number and it will be taken no further. If they do not get a response or they do not receive the code word then the police are dispatched. A monitored alarm is a good idea for isolated houses or those who do not want to rely on their neighbours.
There is also the option of having an duress alarm fitted to your home. If a thief breaks in to your home while you are there or you are under threat from someone you simply press the button assistance will soon be with you.
While burglar alarms are the most common type of home alarm there are a number of others that you can purchase. Movement detectors are often used in conjunction with burglar alarms. You place these around your home and they detect any movement in that area. They work by using either ultrasonic or infrared detectors.
For extra security you can also use Magnetic reed switches. These can be placed on your doors and windows and they will raise the alert when a door or window is opened deterring the trespasser from entering your property. It can also allow you to see where your property may be vulnerable and where may need extra protection.
For a more detailed alarm system you may wish to use a CCTV monitoring system. You place video cameras at various points on your property which will record the goings on in that area. You can either employ someone to watch the screens or you can play the video back later on. Video footage can be very helpful when it comes to prosecuting an intruder.
It is also recommended that every home has a smoke alarm fitted. In the event of fire this will alert you so that you are able to get to safety. Alarms systems of all types not only help to protect your property but provide extra peace of mind for when you are away from your home and for while you are sleeping.
