Ways to Organize Video Files

If you’ve been looking around your house, trying to find a movie, you might have realized just how disorganized your life has become. It’s not that you’re a messy person or that your family is messy, but that you have just too busy. You don’t have time to organize video files in your life and you don’t have the motivation in most cases. But there are ways that you can regain your control, organize video files, and get back a sense of control.

Assess Your Situation

What you need to do first is assess your situation. How many videos do you have? How many are files and how many are DVDs? When you can take an inventory of what you have, you can begin to create a system to organize video files. While it’s true that you might not be able to organize everything right away, you can begin to see just how organized you might already be and then you can work on organizing anything that might be out of place right now. Take some time to list all of the files or DVDs you have and then begin to see what sorts of categories you might want to create for these files.

Categories Make For Easier Organization

Many people think that if they just organize video files by names that they will be able to create a defined system. But often, when you want to watch a movie, you’re not thinking about the name of a movie, rather you are thinking about what type of movie you want to see. Try to organize your videos by the genre of the film they are or perhaps by the way the movie makes you feel – i.e. comedy, drama, etc. This way, you can find the movie that will suit your mood at the time, allowing you to have the best possible entertainment experience, depending on the day.

Start Small

You don’t have to organize video files all at once. You can take it step-by-step and day by day. It can be overwhelming when you have a lot of videos to begin to organize in just one day. Instead, try to organize your files in a few minutes a day, slowly establishing a system that not only helps you to stay organized, but that is also easy to maintain. When you slowly organize, you won’t feel like your life is changing too much – something that often leads to chaos once again. Even just ten minutes a day for a month will clear up the biggest organization system, helping you to feel good about the process, without interrupting your life.

You can use a number of tools to organize video files, but software is often the best system. It can often do the work for you and allow you to create a video collection that is accessible and effective for your entertainment needs. Choosing to get organized is the first step, actually getting organized is the easy part.
