Children Character’s Story May Help Ease Sibling Rivalry

“Fanciful” Children’s Character has a “Real” Propose and Mission

Artist/author, Ray Gatica from Humble, wishes to share a children’s story with children. The story is based on The Official Baby Watcher, (The Li’l Baby Watcher) character. The author believes that it can be used to curb sibling rivalry and even inspire older siblings to take pride in helping watch over their younger baby brother or sister’s well being.

Have you ever had a need to create something because you can’t find anything like it in stores anywhere? It happened to the artist, creator of the “The Official Baby Watcher (The OBW)”, an artistic, children’s character, born out of his imagination and a need for a meaningful baby gift for a friend’s newborn baby. The original gift was painted as a two-dimensional poster, since then it has been presented in a soft plush doll that doubles as a decorative wall hanging for the baby’s room.

The character is an extension of The Baby Watcher story. In the story, the character is described as a mussy and seemingly unimportant, little misfit named Wob, who magically transforms, over comes his fear and self-doubt to save the baby in the story, from imminent danger – to earn the title – The Official Baby Watcher (see excerpt below). The story was written and illustrated by the artist, and serves to introduce the character, which has a special purpose and mission, to the family.

The story is non-mushy reading for ages 3 on up. Even though the story is for children, it is also for the little misfit is us all”, says Gatica.

Story Excerpt: Wob was so happy that he had saved the baby that he was still glowing and smiling proudly. He was glad that it had not been ‘Stranger Danger’ after all. After the excitement was over, Mother and Father walked over to the high shelf and thanked Wob. They realized this little character they hardly ever noticed had saved their baby from harm. Father said, “look at the way he is standing and saluting he looks quite official – lets call him “The Official Baby Watcher.” Father, then reached for Wob, picked him off the high shelf and set him closer to the baby’s bed. Mother, gave Wob a big kiss on the cheek. Wob felt a warm glow inside – he liked the feeling of father’s warm, gentle hands, and Mommy’s tender kiss.

The artist wrote the story and created the illustrations using MS Photoshop.

Conclusively, I believe the OBW can be used as a small tool in minimizing sibling rivalry,” says Gatica. I expect a discerning public, who expect more from a children’s character, will support the character and help in spreading his mission world-wide. It is not often that you can say a children’s character has a defining purpose and mission, much less redeeming, social value.
