Make a Few Changes in Your Decor to Ring in the New Year
Ringing in the New Year by staying up late, and watching the ball drop in Times Square, or parting till Midnight, is the traditional New Year’s Eve way to celebrate the end of the old and birth of the new. Most people still have their Christmas decorations in place for New Year’s, and do not change anything to commemorate the advent of the celebration, with different decorations. It is quite easy to add a few touches that can set New Year’s apart from Christmas, and allow the holiday to receive its own personality.
Most people are happy to leave the Christmas decorations up long after the presents are opened, we love the lingering atmosphere of the holidays, and are hesitant to lose the glow of the tree and the pretty sights of elves, and toys that lie about. Blending New Year’s and Christmas decorations can actually add to the New Year’s celebration.
You can begin in the same place you began with Christmas, the large area rugs from which you drew your inspiration for Christmas themes. If your rugs have a specific Christmas motif, you can switch them out for festive rugs that are not. A beautiful plush Flokati rug can bring a sense of the festiveness of New Year and still be bright enough for the Christmas spirit to linger.
Add an area rug with a bubbly motif to your dining room, and you will beset to pop the cork over a midnight snack of wine and cheese with your guest. Bring in jewel toned party favors, and they will blend well with the ornaments of Christmas.
Do not forget to bring in glittering metallic touches to go along with the more subtle hues of your Christmas theme. Adding hints of black and white can raise the comfy feel to one of elegance and formality. Silver and gold work well with black, and red, so go all out and transform your living room from a casual Christmas, to one waiting for the New Year celebration.
By removing the Christmas decorations like Santa, and replacing with the new baby New Year, or the old man of the old year, you can transform your home for a party with little effort. Throw some tinsel on your tree and drown it in silver and gold, and watch the lights transform it from a family tradition, into a brilliant New Year’s centerpiece.
Purchase a few party hats, and noise makers and gather everyone together at midnight for a round of noise and applause to bring in the New Year. Light a bonfire, and blow up a little gunpowder, and make some noise outside, with the fireworks. Put up a big screen and invite the neighbors, especially new ones, make them feel a part of the neighborhood by bringing in the New Year together.
It does not take a lot of effort to make changes from Christmas to New Years, but the changes can be worthwhile and create the perfect atmosphere for a New Year’s Party.
