Christening is a time to celebrate and should be memorable for everyone involved in it, especially if the christening is for an adult. Although christenings and baptisms are commonly performed when a person is a child, sometimes this ceremony will be performed on an adult instead. These are usually very expensive but some families keep theirs for generations and are used to line the table where holy objects can be placed. Some homes have one or two altar cloths fully embroidered and made of finest lace and linen which are handed down from generation to generation. There are some families that keep on to the family altar cloth for hundreds of years. Giving one to an adult is a gesture that truly speaks of welcome and good will.
