Malta 5 Star – Holidays That Excel
The Malta 5 star holiday has something for every discerning holidaymaker. Whether you’re looking for sea and sand, history and architecture, hill walking or water sports – Malta fits the bill.
Best Location and Weather
Malta’s location means that it is truly an all-year-round destination. Summers tend to be hot and long and the beach season can extend well into October. Winters are mild and although there can be some chilly days, there are on average 5-6 hours of sunshine per day. Less than 600mm of rain falls each year but this can be enough to turn the Maltese countryside lush and green from November through to May. Malta is an ideal location for walking or cycling holidays or just appreciating the breathtaking scenery.
Best Beaches
You’re never far from the sea in Malta, so understandably the Mediterranean will play a major role in any Malta 5 star holiday. Being non-tidal, the Med tends to be relatively safe although you should always follow local advice – don’t forget that St Paul was shipwrecked here! There are a wide variety of water sports available for all ages and ability levels, as well as fishing and boat trips. The blue grotto is a trip definitely not to be missed. There are numerous sandy and rocky beaches for those who prefer a more leisurely break. Gozo and Comino islands are also interesting places to visit and, if you don’t fancy the ferry trip, you can take a helicopter to Gozo and take advantage of the spectacular views.
Best in Luxury
Malta 5 star holidays can cater for all tastes. You could choose a luxury hotel break which can cater to your every whim. From top class cuisine to spa and fitness centres, you can be sure to be pampered inside and out. Or, if you prefer to be a bit more independent, there is a wide selection of luxury apartments and villas with private pools.
Malta’s position in the Mediterranean mean that is has been coveted and conquered by many different nationalities over the millennia.
Best for History
Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, right through to the French and the British – each culture has left its mark on the island. Language, cuisine and architecture all bear witness to this unique multicultural legacy. Although some of the place names may suggest otherwise, connections to Britain are still strong in Malta. Cars drive on the left side of the road and even the plugs are the same as the UK. Maltese is Malta’s official language, though you’ll also find English is spoken by a very high percentage of the population and Italian is also widely known – it’s not that far from Italy after all!
A visit to Valletta the island capital is a must on any Malta 5 star holiday. This fortress city with its two deep harbours and cathedral is jam packed with history. There are bars and restaurants a plenty on the quaint side streets and waterfront, catering for all tastes and palates.
Mdina and Mosta both have magnificent cathedrals, which are well worth a visit and you could watch a demonstration of glass blowing at the famous Mdina glass factory.
Over recent years Malta has become a bit of a filmmaker’s paradise. The island has retained an authenticity and character that may be absent from parts of mainland Europe making it an ideal stand-in for many locations. At the other end of the timeline, you’ll find megalithic temples which pre-date Stonehenge and the pyramids.
If you are looking for a luxury holiday for the discerning, where you are taken care of but are left to do your own thing and make your own decisions about what happens next, then a Malta 5 star holiday could be just what you are looking for.
