Winter Jewelry Trends
This winter season, big and bold is still trendy but in a different way than we saw during the Spring and Summer. Gone are the long layers of single strand necklace. This season big, chunky necklaces will be complementing outfits everywhere. Bold designs in unexpected materials are becoming quite popular on runways everywhere. A strand of baubles close to the neck with a large geometric or nature-inspired pendant adds a “wow” factor to any outfit. The purpose of jewelry this season is to make a statement and really stand out against clothing – they will be taking center stage.
Metals are very popular this winter in every accessory from necklaces to earrings to bracelets. With the price of gold and platinum at record highs however, different metals are being utilized in jewelry. These metals are much more lightweight and affordable than the traditional precious metals. Some new metals that are hitting the jewelry scene include stainless steel, titanium and copper. These metals have just as much beauty and durability as traditional gold and silver but cost much less drawing in the savvy shoppers the bad economy has created.
Some other great pieces to add to your jewelry collection this winter are bangles and large cocktail rings. These are great pieces because they are typically more affordable than necklaces so you can load up your jewelry box with a lot of options. Square bangles are very popular right now – anything with a geometric flavor. Layer them all the way up your arm for a big statement and be sure to mix different metals and textures together. When choosing cocktail rings, the bigger the better. Anything with gemstones and crystals – lots of sparkle is the perfect accent to your holiday outfit. Clear crystals and white pearls in fun, feminine shapes scream winter and can be dressed up or down.
A great way to get a bold look is to add a splash of color with your jewelry. Colors during the winter tend to be a bit darker and more neutral than in the warmer months. Remember that with these chunky pieces of jewelry, pick the outfit to match the jewelry. To get that impact with a bit of color, red is a great choice. Either bright red baubles or crimson gemstones will set off perfectly with black, grey and white. Don’t match everything exactly but wear reds in the same hue for a truly fashionable look.
If you are heading out to a holiday party and want a little bit of sophistication then you can’t go wrong with the classic chains and pearls. Nothing says cozy and winter like classic white pearls. Mix it up with some pretty metal chains for some sparkle and there you have it. These are great pieces to invest in because they will never go out of style and can be worn with just about anything. Layer on different length strands of pearls and chains, throw a feather in your hair for a 1920’s inspired look that will keep you dancing right through New Years.
