Keys to Church Growth Everyone Should Know
The goal of every church leader is to make his or her church grow in number.
Tip # 1: Always introduce guests to other church members
Gaining new friends is always the first step in making them feel welcome in the congregation. Knowing more people there will make them feel less alienated and will thus create a better environment for them. This also creates more opportunity for interaction since church members might meet the guest in public places such as restaurants and malls. Small chit chats such as these will give the guest a glimpse of the fellowship that awaits him/her in the church.
Tip # 2: Be friends with the guests
Do not only befriend them during church hours. Spend time with them outside church. Know what their interests are and create a bond between you and them. It will be easier for you to invite them over again if you feel at ease with each other. Plus, if you are friends with your guests then it is easier for you to trust each other.
Tip # 3: Involve the guests in church activities
If they know how to sing, play a musical instrument, do interpretative dancing, or have a great voice for reading Bible verses then they could probably help out during church meetings. A word of caution: do not force them to take a responsibility if they did not tell you that they want to do it. Tell your guest that the church band is in need of a vocalist or a guitarist and ask him/her if he/she wants to fill in the spot. If your guest agrees then it will make him/her feel like the church values her skills.
Tip # 4: Make them feel valued
Like tip # 3, this tip is all about making the guest feel good about himself. Acknowledging the guest’s presence and participation in church activities creates a feeling of appreciation. Almost all people want to feel valued-even if they are not part of a church group. It makes them feel great about themselves and makes them feel as if the church not only appreciates but also needs their presence. As for the talents and skills, their contributions to making the church activities better must also be acknowledged.
Tip # 5: Consistently invite the guests for another church meeting
Consistency is the key to getting more members. You might be able to do all four tips above but if you are not consistent in inviting the guest then the momentum will be lost. Then, you would have to start all over again in building rapport with this person which consumer much of your time and energy. By being consistent, you are able to show the guest that your intention to make them part of your family is real and unfaltering. It will be a very good way of persuading them to join your congregation.
Surely, there are more ways to create church growth. But these 5 tips are already a good start for churches looking for church growth strategies.
