Feel Better, Live Longer With Indoor Air Quality With Seasonal Duct Cleaning
When we build our homes, one complicated and less commonly known concern deals with the movement of air. A house has to breathe, and if we want to keep it warm in the Canadian summer or warm in the lingering winter, we better hope the ducting system is installed well. As critical as they are however, they present a challenge in maintaining indoor air quality with seasonal duct cleaning.
Every environment has its challenges for all the creatures that live there, and mankind is no different. We are in fact, probably less well adapted for the challenges of each place we live than other species, except we have the advantage of being able to think through them and make adjustments. When it comes to the weather, we have a wide array of options for keeping ourselves within our relatively narrow comfort zone.
Because the range of temperatures here in Canada is great, the air ducts in our homes are used perhaps more than in most places, and it stands to reason that keeping them clean is a good thing. The first thing you should do is check your ducts for obvious signs of contamination. There are a number of things which can find their way into your ducts, even if you keep your home in good order.
Considering areas which are susceptible to mold and mildew, and nearly all locations in Canada are, this is one of the first things to be concerned with having removed. Mold spores are ubiquitous, but when they appear in high concentrations they become more problematic. They can cause fungal infections, sensitivities or allergies, and mycotoxin toxicity.
A fungal infection, especially for anyone who is already suppressed immune systems, such as those suffering from diabetes, can be a life threatening problem. There are the external possibilities such as skin infections and athletes foot, as well as sinus and lung infections. But it is the possibility of the entire body becoming affected through a systemic fungal infection that can even become deadly. For the severely compromised immune system, a wide variety of rare and debilitating fungal infections can be present.
Molds create an excretion that is harmful to humans, although not all are harmful. Penicillin is an example of one of the byproducts of mold, yet most of the material they produce are harmful to us. A condition named sick building syndrome may result from the toxins produced by mold. Prolonged or regular exposure can result in nerve problems, although normally the result is general sick feeling with fatigue and malaise.
But nearly invisible harmful spores are not the only things that can make your air ducts problematic. Here in North America there is a wide array of creatures who find air ducts a safe and protected place to take up residence. When they perish, their bodies become a source of even more vermin, not to mention the diseases they may carry.
Dirt and dust, though not as melodramatic as the other problems, also pose a threat to the quality of the air in your home. Taking care of these problems on a routine basis is an step towards improving the health and well being of your family, and makes good sense. To maintain the value of your house and making it a more pleasant environment to live, work and play in, it is as easy as investing in indoor air quality with seasonal duct cleaning.
