Tips to Keep Teeth Looking Great and Feeling Good Too

Most of us at one time or another has suffered from bad teeth. This can be quite painful, of course, and we run to the specialist when this happens. But these days, there is no need to lose our beloved molars quite so easily since the experts have many ways of taking care of even the most damaged of teeth so that they last a lifetime in some instances. Try looking up ‘dentist’ or ‘braces’ on the net to see what these guys have to offer.

In days gone by, many people would just suffer with their teeth since there was no real treatment but to just extract them. Indeed, these guys used to be paid for all the bad teeth they pulled out so the temptation was there just to extract rather than save. Nowadays though, specialists have found some innovative ways to keep us smiling and may we all be grateful for that!

Along with the usual crowns and fillings that we are used to, there are some clever ideas which not only save the teeth but make them look better too. When we had crooked teeth or ones that produced an overbite over the lower set, we often had to be fitted with a metal and wire contraption which literally forced the teeth back into line. Many a school kid would be totally embarrassed about sporting this for a number of years and would often turn not an introverted adult because of this.

Now there are removable plastic fittings which are made in see through materials. This pulls the teeth back into shape in the same way but the beauty of it is that it can be taken out when the person needs to be in public. Even adults are helped with these and most people just wear them overnight or when they are alone.

For teeth which have no meaningful life left in them, and where extraction is inevitable, some specialists now have the ability to sink titanium posts directly into the jawbone so that a fake tooth can be attached at a later stage. This gives the appearance of a full set of natural teeth and the person cannot feel where the fake tooth is either.

Teeth whitening too has taken off over the last decade or so and many people buy over the counter kits to try this for themselves at home. Although they may work to some degree, it is the specialist who can undertake this work to a much higher degree. Since their chemicals are much stronger than the over the counter variety, they have much better results which tend to last longer too.

Whatever is going on in the mouth, gum disease is only treatable by the specialist. Since it is him who can diagnose and treat this terrible disease, it is best to go for regular check- ups otherwise the disease could just loosen those teeth which could have been saved by early treatment. Our own teeth are obviously better than fake so we should all try to keep them for as long as possible.
