What to Expect When Camping in Languedoc

If you have never been to Languedoc let me first tell you where it is. France is pretty large but Languedoc can be found to the south of France. In the west you can find it at the French/Spanish border close to a place called Perpignan. If you follow the Mediterranean coastline towards the east you would have gone 2/3rds of the way around the Golfe du Lion.

It is only recently that this beautiful place was really discovered by us Brits. This is because usually, we take our vacations in Provence but here can be pretty expensive. The reason here is expensive is because it is used mostly by the “Jet Set” crowd and as such the prices have been hiked up to meet this particular crowd and the rest of us regular folk have to suffer.

In recent times Montpellier has started to really thrive; there are a number of new restaurants and shops as well as events that are specially earmarked for tourists. There is also Beziers and Narbonne that are also seeing a boom in tourism which many believe is due to the low prices that can be found on property there.

Since Languedoc has such perfect weather it is ideal for camping holidays as well as caravan holidays and mobile home holidays. You will also find good food and beautiful beaches here as well as a rich history. You will be overwhelmed with a number of activities so you don’t have to worry about not being entertained while there instead you may feel as though there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done.

In recent times we have seen an upsurge of German, British and Dutch tourists along with a number of indigenous French who just love to holiday in their country. And with the beauty that it has to offer, who would blame them!

If you love to do a lot of stuff on your holiday then you will be glad to come here. You will be able to enjoy things such as sailing, canal boating, windsurfing, canoeing, kite surfing, swimming and fishing among other amazing water activities.

If you aren’t a water person and would prefer to do some golfing or tennis you will be glad to know that there is no shortage of that either. No matter where you go in the region you will find somewhere you can engage in one of these sports. If you go in December you can also find skiing. And if those don’t interest you, you can always go walking or rock climbing.

If you are the daring type with a free spirit there are things like ballooning which will take you over breath-taking rivers and the many vineyards that are to be found in Languedoc. You can also go paragliding or if that is too adventurous for you, you can instead take a light aircraft over the Cathar castles.

If you ever come to Languedoc you shouldn’t leave without taking a look at the local wildlife. You will find more in the swamp and mountainous regions. You will be able to find a number of animals including pelicans and vultures.
The Cathar castles have become a famous spot for tourists since the making of the book “The Da Vinci Code”. No matter what you do when you come to Languedoc you will be sure to find something that will be just right for you. It doesn’t matter if you are staying in a caravan or mobile home or even in a hotel. The time you spend here will be time well spent and you will be yearning to come back for your next holiday.
