Bees can remember for days the faces of people they have met, a knack so suprising since they have very little brains. The only other living thing capable of doing this are human beings.
4. Bridges for Heaven and Earth
These honey-producing insects were revered during the Ancient Near East and Aegean cultures because they were believed to have served as conduits for souls leaving the Earth to join their Creator in Heaven. A few believers even built beehive-like crypts for their loved ones. The custom could have originated from the Ancient Grecian time when honey was used during the embalming period.
5. The Queen lives longest
The Queen Bee lives for 5 years, the longest life term among bees. Worker bees live from between 6 months to 9 months while male bees die after mating with the Queen.
6. Bedmates only
Drones are the most worthless among the bees. They do not go out to collect nectar and pollen nor do they have stings to protect their beehive. Their only role in the Bee Kingdom is as mating partners of the Queen. They also have the shortest lifespan. They die immediately after the sexual process.
7. Honey-beer for newly-weds
During the ancient period, couples who have just been married were supplied with mead, a mixture of honey brewed into alcohol, to increase the lovers’ satisfaction and to hasten the reproduction period. The practice was adopted by the younger generation and is still being followed today where new couples dine and wine on their wedding day to prepare for a night of ‘honey-mooning.’
8.Dancing acts Honey bees use dance actions to communicate their messages. Unable to talk, they use a series of spirited movements to interact with one another.
9. Space travelers The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has brought 3,400 bees to outer space in one of its universal trips. The number of the insects were more than the 482 human beings that have so far joined the space expeditions.
10. Defensive experts Two strategies are used by bees to protect themselves from aggressors: they use their poisonous stings against animals with backbones, like birds, fish and reptiles. On the other hand, they crush to death invertebrates, like worms, who strike them.
