How to Empty Saltwater Pools

Every pool needs to be cleaned regularly and emptied of its water and replaced with fresh water when needed to ensure not only a healthy pool water for the bathers, but also to keep the pool condition at its top level. This means that regardless of what type of water system you use in your pool, the similar amount of care should be kept at regularly.

Water replacement can cut the effort of keeping the balance of chemicals in proper control. It also assures that the elements in the water are still under control and manageable. Emptying the pool water is also a good way to eliminate harmful elements in the water as well as imbalance water chemistry that seem impossible to adjust.

The method in emptying saltwater pools is similar with the one used on chlorinated pools. The first thing you need to do is to stop using the chlorine generator to reduce the natural chlorine that it produces from the salt. Do this several days before your scheduled cleaning so that the water can rest without having any chlorine. The main objective of this is to keep the water safe for use on plants, vehicles, furniture and other stuffs as you drain it from the pool. However, unlike chlorinated pool water, saltwater pools are more natural and have minimal amount of chlorine present in the water.

Drain the water somewhere you intend to use it or if you don’t need the water you can place the end of the hose to the drainage system to avoid having too much water in your property. Make sure that you are careful with the hose to prevent additional works with the unwanted mess the splashing of water can make. Turn the pool filter system off as you work on getting the water out of the swimming pool as leaving it on is useless and would only gather stuffs that should be taken out with the water by suctioning with the pump.

Make sure that you don’t overuse the pump as you drain the water by giving it some rest. Turn it off as per instruction on the manufacturer’s guide. This is in order for the pump to cool down and regain its optimum performance as it suctions the water off the swimming pool. Turn it on as soon as its engine is cold and suitable for use again.

Repeat the process until you emptied the pool of its water or until you are satisfied with your task. This may take hours to accomplish as you can’t force the pump to work on a single suctioning as it needs appropriate rest so that it won’t break down.

Replace the pool water with fresh water and run several tests before you work on its water chemistry. Add the appropriate amount of salt into the water and leave the chlorine generator running for hours to enable the process of electrolysis in order to maintain sanitation in the water. Keep the chemical elements in their respective levels to ensure a healthy and quality water for the bathers. Follow this simple step and you can do this job easily on your own.
