Personnel Need Training on How to Keep Secrets

We have all seen those horrendous stories in the press, where personal secrets have been made very public, and also seen the embarrassment that it causes. In fact, some rather scandalous revelations have been made about some of the most important people in the world, and this often brings them down to earth with quite a crash. Put this scenario then onto a global company and imagine the destruction and damage it can cause if trade secrets are leaked out for all to see? With this in mind, some companies have specialized in IT certification and IT security to stop hackers from getting into computer systems.

Since computers came into use, there has always been a fear of others finding out what is going on behind closed doors. Hacking is common now and people are so clever at finding a way into systems that stopping it has become an industry in itself. Governments need to keep secrets for sure, but imagine what would happen if other countries could see what was happening in relation to defense systems etc. It is obvious that this could prove to be a weakness that could just bring a country down eventually.

These new companies have set up systems to train personnel from all walks of life into not divulging secrets inadvertently. They stress the need to have departmental autonomy so that each one is not fully aware of what is going on in the next one. By doing this, they clamp down on the sharing of information so that no one person can figure out the full extent of what the company does, and more importantly, how they achieve this.

One simple example of this would be in the payroll department. Company heads are very private when it comes to how much they are being paid. If staff were talking about this across the company, this could prove to be very disrupting when pay talks are in the offing. An employee who is on minimum wage, but who is important to the whole routine of the company may well feel aggrieved if he finds out that the manager is getting twenty times the salary he is. This could leave to strike action and the company will certainly come to a grinding halt.

Now, multiply this hundred-fold when the personnel are talking about some new secret product or system that is being brought out and the situation becomes much more volatile. If competitors can get their hands on this information then they will certainly have a jump on the product and may well bring out a copy before the original hits the market. Since they spent nothing on research and development, they can price is lower and this then brings down the originating company to its knees for sure.

These training companies advertise online and they will highlight all the different kinds of services available. They usually monitor the company first, then come in and show where the weak links are. The cost should be offset by the added protection and this should be taken into account when deciding.
