The Greener Perspective: Healthier Ways to Clean and Sanitize Your Pool

Nowadays people have taken an interest, if not an obsession, to the concept of going green with all the aspects of everyday life. This of course includes pool maintenance for pool owners. It seems that people are more conscious when it comes to the chemicals that they put in their pools because of their obvious harmful effects. Most parents have dealt with skin allergies, dried out skin and hair and red eyes when it comes to their kids – and they are just tired of it.

People in this era are in constant search of ways to make pool maintenance as green as possible. Apparently, the use of chlorine is slowly deteriorating. Chlorine is an effective way to clean and sanitize one’s pool but the harmful side effects are truly inevitable. Pool companies have catered several options for a greener alternative. Here are some of them:

– OXIDATION – Mainly, oxidation is the reduction of electrons and the increase in oxygen content in water. Oxidation is said to make water healthier. Some doctors even advice their patients to shift to drinking oxidized water. In fact, many drinking water companies have produced their own rendition of the oxidized water. In terms with using oxidation on the pool, it is pretty much the same thing. When using the oxidation technique, a generator is needed to execute the job. It is powered by either electricity or ultraviolet light.

– SALT WATER – Salt water pools has enjoyed their share of fair popularity in the U.S. for the last decade. Primarily, salt water pools use lesser amount of salt to clean and sanitize the pool compared to using the chlorine purification system. This type of system uses electrolysis to break down the salt when applied to the pool. Also, the salt water system is enabled by using a chlorine generator as opposed to directly applying chlorine.

– WATER PURIFICATION PLANTS – This is especially ideal for natural pools. A lot of plant species can be used to purify and sanitize the pool. Some of them are the bulrush or tule, carex, nymphaea, phragmites or the common reed and sparganium or the bur-reed. These plants eat off of bacteria and algae and take away the carbon dioxide and replace it with oxygen.

– SONIC WAVES – Quite amazingly, ultrasonic waves can be use to remove contaminants, pests and algae from the pool. The process appears to be derived from a cool sci-fi movie. An ultrasonic speaker is placed on the floor’s surface and it destroys algae and contaminants’ formation and reproduction. No worries, this is safe for good bacteria, plants, fishes, animals and of course people.

– IONIZATION – Ionization can be classified as the following: classical ionization, quantum ionization, positive ionization, negative ionization, tunnel ionization, sequential ionization and non-sequential ionization. Basically this type of technique produces adequate amount of silver and copper to destroy and kill algae, bacteria and contaminants.

Surely, there a many different ways to turn your old chemical maintained pool towards a greener and healthier perspective. Shift now and take the plunge!
