A Tent For a Termite
Termite treatments may become a necessity if you have an oversized termite colony feeding upon the structure of your home. A colony that is of extremely sizable proportions may have to be treated with a termite tent. If a pest control company suggests you do this, it is best to prepare your home before action is taken to destroy the termites. Preparation for tenting must take place throughout an entire household if a colony is present throughout much of the home. If this is the case, the pest control professionals will create a tent that goes up over your entire home. They will fill this with a gas to kill these annoying creatures, and the cloud will fill up your entire home.
Tenting is considered by many to be rather dangerous. Because it involves a great deal of pesticides, termite tenting is thought by many to be an act of last resort. It is expensive as well, making many feel it is all the more unnecessary. Unfortunately, it is sometimes very necessary to destroy a termite colony that has grown to epic proportions. Such a problem may mean that tenting however tedious; it is the best option for your home. Tenting is the best way to ensure that the entire structure of your home has been properly fumigated, killing off any and all of these pests. Tenting may be the best way to regain control of your own home.
But just what goes on when your home is tented for a termite treatment? You can expect the entire structure to be covered with a tent or tarp, which will be securely sealed so that the pesticides cannot easily escape. All residents must find a new place to stay for a few nights, because the house will be inaccessible for two to three days.
To prepare your home for this process, be sure that all food items are properly sealed in plastic bags. The pest control company should supply these to you as part of the package. Warning signs must be placed around the property so that they can be clearly seen from all angles. It is important that no one enter the property during fumigation. A tent will be placed over the house, and strategically placed fans will circulate the poison gas throughout the house.
The tarp will be removed after about two days of treatment, and the gas will slowly leave the home. On the third day the pest control company will return to verify that the home is safe for the return of its occupants. They will use instruments suited to the task of removing the gas from the home. After the workers clear the air in this manner, the home will be safe for occupancy once again. The gas cannot be absorbed by furniture, countertops or other substances so there is no need to worry about it. That being said; many homeowners elect to wipe down exposed surfaces anyway. After the tent treatment is over, living termites will now be dead. Their eggs will remain, but when they hatch no workers will be left alive to bring them food, and they will die quickly.
