Vanity is an innate character of all human beings. We all want to be beautiful – for ourselves, for our partners and soon-to-be partners. Even if we do not want to admit it, we always end up glancing on the mirror just to check if our make-up still looks fresh, if our tie is still in position and that it matches our whole outfit or if someone is admiring you from a far. All these actions confirms that we are vain, vain, vain.

Fashion evolution
As time progresses, people in the fashion world has seen the way people respond to the latest fashion trend. How some considers fashion magazines as their booklet to how they should live and enjoy their life. This is always the case with women.

Long before time, it has always been considered that it is the women who are always into fashion. Religiously reading fashion magazines, attending events and galas that highlights a designer’s collection. However, the men will, of course, never be left behind. Though they are not always present in these kind of gatherings, you can be sure that they are fully aware of where to get the finest silk for their vests, the best textile for their shirts and pants. Some do even extend their extensive search up to their hankerchiefs (yes, they do!).

The fashion industry might have evolved but the vanity felt by people – men and women, young and old, the rich and the poor – never stopped. In fact, there has always been a competition between men and women about who is more of a fashionista?

Seeing this healthy competition taking a stride, fashion designers decided to put this into good use and have came up with designs after designs to outdo themselves in producing art that will suit everyone’s fancy – be it clothes, shoes or accessories.

Who stands out?
Who can we consider as the greatest fashionista and the vainest of them all? I would have to side with the women.

Why?
Have you seen any dashing prince admire himself in the mirror like Cinderella does? Have you seen how Rapunzel would generously stroke her long blonde hair? How Helena’s face launched a thousand ships and caused for Achille’s heel to be severed?

I believe women have got what it takes to be stylish – be it with designer clothing or not. A woman knows how to strut and accentuate her qualities – even if she is unaware that she is doing it (cute!)!
Another point to consider is the ability of women to choose from the wide variety of fashion trends available in the market. Be it the dresses, frocks, jeans, shoes – you name it, they will definitely have it for a woman.

Why?
I think this is because a woman can mix and match. Women are more experimental when it comes to men (who always prefer to stay with the basics). They love playing with colors, prints, texture, accessories, etc. Their fashion statement is their belief, their expression. Not that I am saying men do not have this but women are more inclined to subtlely convey it through their clothing or choice of design.

So… are you vain or just stylish?
