Excessive Head Sweat and Its Cure

Excessive head sweat is known as ‘Cranial Hyperhidrosis’. This is a condition where your head sweats excessively, leaving your scalp oily. In such a situation all you feel like doing is shaving off your head. The reason for this is the excess production of a chemical called ‘ Acetylcholine ‘ by our nervous system which makes the sweat gland secrete excess sweat. The smooth working of our nervous system is effected by our lifestyle, work pressure and mainly stress levels.

There are external and internal causes for excessive head sweating. The external causes are very much under our control. Some of the external causes are – emotional stress, excessive excitement, anxiety, nervousness, eating spicy and oily food ,excessive workout and handling phobias etc.

If we carefully look at all the external factors they are totally under our control, we can definitely work out a way in which to adopt a lifestyle that is healthy and peaceful.

The internal factors are – menopause, diabetes, chronic pain from spinal cord trauma, hyperthyroidism, high fever and sometimes heredity.
Now most of these internal factors are beyond our control, but for some of them like diabetes and hyperthyroidism, we need to consult a doctor and take medication.

Now there are many ways in which one can bring down the level of sweating. For starters, if you have stress, then there are different medications available to control your stress levels and anxiety to normal. There medicines make you calm down and it also calms down your over-worked nerves.

Then, injecting botox in the sweat gland to freeze the excretion of sweat is a very dangerous way to conquer sweat. But this almost kills the sweat gland, after this you will have no sweat but it is fatal as the sweat gland is a very important gland in maintaining your normal body temperature.

Again excessive sweat can be reduced by using various cooling creams and shampoos, that are available in the market, on your scalp; but these contain liquid aluminium chloride which closes the pores on your scalp and you feel like there is less sweat. But actually these are harmful as it is blocking the sweat from coming out which can lead to various scalp problems.

Also as a safety tip, do not wear a cap as it traps the moisture, much longer, from the sweat on your scalp. This kills your hair follicles, resulting in pre-mature balding.

Our body was meant to function a certain way, it needs to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep, but our present work culture makes it all the more difficult to stay calm. To top it off, we torture our body by eating an unhealthy diet; even though one can argue that time is of essence and fast food is an easy choice. To add to that, in today’s day and age, everyone of us has to endure a very high stress level in our daily life due to our life choices. Therefore, it becomes impossible to stay calm throughout the day.

Of course the easiest way to fight sweat is to adopt a very healthy lifestyle, do yoga to de-stress yourself and stay calm.
