How to Improve Your Company’s Security on the Internet

The Holistic Information Society Practitioner Institute (HISPI) is headquartered in Lithonia, Georgia. HISPI is an independent certification organization consisting of volunteers which include chief information officers, information security officers, information security managers, directors of information security, security analysts, security engineers, and technology risk manager) from major organizations and corporations that are among the true information security practitioners. The focus of HISPI is on the international standards, best practices, and comprehensive framework for developing effective information security programs using the holistic approach. HISPI provides IT Certification and IT Security. HISPI was founded by a gentleman who is a security subject matter expert in the area of Information Technology. He is also the founder of two other companies. He received his Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria as well as a Masters degree in Business Information Systems from the University of East London, United Kingdom.

The objectives of HISPI include the promotion of cost-effective training and certification; the fostering of a positive code of ethics among information security, audit, and compliance professionals; bridge the existing gap between current professional certification programs (CISSP, CISA, CISM, and CFA) by promoting holistic information security programs; promote cost-effective training and certification to information security, audit and compliance professionals in particular those employees that work in the public sector or higher education where budget constraints can be a barrier to obtaining training and certification. It does not wish to replace the current certifications but rather to compliment them.

HISPI currently has a limited number of locations that are authorized training centers for their certification courses. These training centers are located in the United States, Canada, Greece, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom. The HISPI certification exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within a time frame of two hours and the individual must receive a grade of 75 percent or higher in order to pass the exam and receive certification. There is fee to take the exam which currently cost five hundred dollars.

However, prior to taking this HISPI certification exam an individual must attend a five day training class. This class can be taken at a designated public location, a private on-site training session, or a web-based training session. You can find the class locations and times listed on their website. The student, on the last day of the class has the option to take the HISPI certification exam. In addition to attending the 5 day HISPI class, the student must have one or more of the following certifications in good standing prior to taking the test. These certifications include: CISM, CISSP, or CISA.

If an individual passes the HISPI certification exam, they must complete a total of 90 CPE’s within a period of three years and pay the annual membership due which is currently fifty dollars. Anyone interested in improving their organization’s security processes utilizing a holistic approach can become a member of HISPI. The annual membership fee is fifty dollars.

Currently, there are approximately 500 individuals worldwide that have successful completed the HISPI certification examination.
