How to Install a CCTV Camera
Installing a CCTV Camera can provide you with peace of mind. Yet, many people think that is something they cannot do themselves. It may take a little effort, but anyone can install a CCTV Camera themselves and the peace of mind you will get is a result is more than worth it.
The first step in setting up your CCTV Camera is figuring out a good location for both the camera and television that will be used to watch the footage. The camera should be placed above its\’ target at a downward angle, so that it completely covers what you want to film. As for the television and recording device for businesses, an office or security room make good locations. At the home, you can save money by hooking the CCTV Camera up to a television you already own.
Now that you know where the footage will be taken, recorded and viewed, it is time to install camera mount. Get a ladder and carefully climb up there and screw it securely into the wall. This will be a lot easier if you drill pilot holes before you begin screwing in the mount.
After that is done it is time to install the wiring. Some systems come with one wire that carries both the footage and electricity to the camera, while other systems have a separate wire for both, but the process is the same. The wire or wires need to get from the room where the television and recording equipment is to the camera mount. It is best to keep the wiring inside the ceiling or wall until it gets to the camera. This adds security, because it keeps would be criminals from cutting the wire. Installing the wire in the ceiling of a building with tiles is easy. Simply move the tiles so you can put the wire above them than put them back. When you get to the tile above the camera put a small hole in it and slide the wire or wires though. For buildings with attics the process is even easier. Simply put a hole in the ceiling of the video recording room and feed the wire up into the attic. Then bring it across the attic to the camera location, put a new hole though the ceiling and feed the wire or wires back down though it. Feeding the wire or wires though walls can be very difficult. The best time to do this is when the recording room is on the opposite side of the wall from the camera. In this case, you simply drill a whole though the wall even with the camera mount and feed the wire or wires though it.
You are almost done. Now that the wire is in place, attach the camera to the camera mount and attach the power and footage wire to the camera. In the recording in viewing room, the footage wire gets attached to the recording device that you will be using. Now run a second video wire from that device to the television that will be used to view the footage. Lastly, Plug everything in and test it out.
That is it. Everything should now be working. If you have any trouble refer to your manufacture instructions that came with the CCTV System.
