There are many designs for park benches. Whether you are looking for park benches for your garden or for your community, you will not run out of options. In the past years, wooden park benches were the most popular. The prices for wooden park benches vary but they are mostly affordable. You can further save money if you will make your own park bench. Below are the details on how to build a park bench.
Materials
The material that you will need when building a wooden park bench are as follows: wood, lag bolts and screws. You will need woods for the posts and seats. For the posts, you will need 4″x4″ or 4″x6″ wooden planks. For the seat, have some 2″x4″ or 2″x6″ wooden planks. Actually, these are just the ideal and you can always choose according to your preference. For the wooden planks to be used for the posts and seats, make sure that what you will use are water-resistant. If that is not possible, you can use paint to cover the entire bench to prevent water in reaching the wood’s surface.
Procedure
When building wooden park bench, you should start by making the posts that will support the entire bench. You will be building three supporting wooden posts. The tallest post should be 3-ft high, which will be tilted later on. The angle between the post and the seat should be around 102 degrees. The wood planks for the seat should be at least 20-ft long. There should be four pieces of supporting posts. They will be connected by 12 lag bolts (1/4 inch in diameter). You should make a preliminary hole. The diameter and width should be both half an inch.
You should then cut the wooden planks for seat. They should be attached to the three support pieces. Make sure that one of them is at the centre with the other two on both sides. Attach the screws from the bottom.
The Last Steps
You can smooth out the edges of the wooden planks for the seat using sandpaper. Sanding can be done before or after connecting the pieces using lag bolts and screws. You can then apply primer then paint for finish and to make the furniture termite-resistant.
