How Metal Detectors Are Used Commercially
Metal detectors are usually used by hobbyists who are into treasure hunting. These are equipment used to detect metals buried underneath the ground. Using these detectors in your hobby is fun and an exercise at the same time. At first, some people start using metal detectors as an expression of their passion to find lost or long forgotten metal treasures in the ground. However, this passion can easily turn into a profession wherein you will hunt for treasure as your job. You just need to extend your patience because easily giving up on your hunt may mean possibly missing out on metal items underneath the soil because you stopped using the detector.
These metal detectors are also beneficial for commercial purposes. In fact, these detectors are first invented in the late 1960s. They are used in the military after further developments were made to them. When they were first used for military purposes, it was used to help detect mines, which were usually placed by the enemies. To avoid being blown up, the detectors work which only make them even more useful for the heroic military men.
Here are the common uses of metal detectors for other purposes:
– Land mine detection. The equipment is used to discover land mines during the process called mine detection or mine sweeping. Once mines are detected, these are removed under the process called mine clearance or de-mining. These are two necessary processes to keep the military troops safe. Mine sweeping and de-mining are dangerous jobs that need really quick hands to do them. Even if there are only small amounts of metal in the mines, these can still set off the metal detectors.
– Geophysical prospecting. This refers to the process of getting geophysical data, which can be used, for space related studies. This also involves getting information concerning geological structures.
– Weapon detection. A metal detector is used to detect if there are weapons carried by people landing in airports and other places that need security such as schools, malls, offices, hotels, and the like.
– Archaeology and research. The metal detector can be used for historic studies. The equipment can be used to detect items like artefacts and old coins. The detectors work well in detecting metallic items buried deep under the ground. This is a part of what makes metal detecting fun. You never know what you will after you hear the beep on your detector and start digging.
– Treasure hunting. Metal detecting as a hobby is fun. As you continue to collect more items that you found, you may even start earning money now.
– Construction. The metal detectors are used to find steel bars in construction pipes and concrete.
– Miscellaneous purposes. There are certain things and situations wherein metals are not supposed to be included. For instance, there should be no metals in liquid diets and food. The detectors can be used to sense foods that are contaminated by metals.
Metal detectors are helpful this way, if you just know how to use them right.
