It is time for you to seriously consider why you are not using reusable bags every time you head out to the grocery store or even for a shopping trip. Unless you live under a rock, you should already be aware of the fact that these store bags that are reusable are better than the old school paper or plastic ones we used to use.

Clearly, the biggest reason you should use these sacks is because it is better for the environment. If you go to the store twice a month and come home with ten sacks on each trip, that is 240 sacks that have to be manufactured just so you can carry your groceries. If you used a reusable sack in place of the first ten bags, there are not any more that need to be produced for you for the rest of the year. Of course, the sacks that are reusable will last much longer than a year so the savings on the environment gets even bigger. This will also reduce the amount of litter that you find around town and in landfills. Of course, you can recycle the paper and plastic sacks each time you go to the store, but it will still take energy and money to get them through the recycle process.

Some people make the claim that they do not use sacks that are reusable because they do not want to pay for them. The truth is that you probably already have a few of these sacks in your house; you just do not recognize them. Many businesses give out these types of totes as promotions or as gift bags. Check your closets and you may already have several sacks you can use.

If you still need more sacks than you have, you should just look for them. If you keep an eye out, you will probably find promotions to acquire them for cheap. Many businesses will offer special days where you can have totes for free if you spend a certain amount of money with them. If this is a store you usually go to, all you have to do is to change the date that you shop. Another common reason for people not using these sacks is that they do not remember to take them when they go for a shopping trip. There is an easy way to get around this problem. All you have to do is keep them in your car. If you are concerned about your car being a mess, just keep all but one tote in the glove compartment or under one of the seats. You just need to keep one sack within eyesight. That will usually be enough to remind you to grab the rest of them as you park your car.

If you still cannot seem to make yourself use reusable plastic sacks, you should at least recycle the paper and plastic ones that you get. Most shopping centers have large tubs set up just inside their front door for bags that need to be recycled.
