Motivate Employees With A 360 Degree Appraisal

You can personalize your coaching program through the use of a 360 degree appraisal. If you have yet to hear about this type of appraisal, it is a long and detailed report that includes several written reviews by those in management positions. There is an evaluation of all of the reviews collectively, and then a self-review is conducted.

All appraisals are meant to serve the same purpose, which is to enlighten executives as to which areas they need to improve upon, and in turn have them commit to working towards improving the areas in which their performance is weak. However, most appraisals fall short of serving their intended purpose. Wouldn’t it be great if you could manage to have all of your employees working to improve their performance, not just during the training process, but long afterwards? You would then have a company that would steadily rise above its competition, and you could maximize your success.

Once your company begins using a 360 degree appraisal, it will be much easier to pinpoint the weaknesses of your executives because you will be considering a number of reports in the appraisal. If you are only considering one singe report, the person being reviewed may just decide that any weaknesses pointed out to them are simply because of the fact that the one who is reviewing them does not like them, or that maybe their reviewer is the only one who feels this way.

However, if the same opinion is coming from multiple people, they may begin to realize that the evaluation is true. In turn, they will most likely start to improve their performance according to what they have been told in the review. Once a person has been presented with the same opinion coming from several different people, it will be hard for them to deny the fact that there is a problem, and they will start to work with management in order to solve the problem.

Don’t forget about the positive aspect of their reviews. Once an employee has become aware of their perceived strengths, they are going to be more likely to seek out tasks that require their specific skills. This becomes highly beneficial to your company in a sense that most tasks will end up being taken on by the people who will do them the best, because they have volunteered to do so.

It doesn’t matter so much what you are selling if the people who are selling it are less than qualified. Everything that occurs within your company essentially relies upon the people working for you. Any issues or weaknesses that your employees have are surely going to be noticed by your customers, and this may wind up costing your business a substantial amount of money from the loss of sales.

This is why proper training and evaluation are so important to the success of your business. When your employees are presented with a 360 degree appraisal, they will be much more likely to take the necessary steps required to remedy any issues that they may have.
