Teach English in Korea For a Unique Experience

One of the most rewarding experiences is teaching English abroad. Teachers can gain invaluable experiences that are both relevant to their working life and their cultural exposure by surrounding themselves with a different culture. In order to teach English in Korea the only experience and qualifications are a passport from an English speaking country and a degree in any subject.

The job requirements are only a small percentage of the benefits of working abroad. Others include gaining substitutable life experiences, an understanding of another culture and at least a few words of a new language. In addition to this they build up invaluable experience working with children, teaching, culture and a develop a much broader perspective on the world that can only help improve the chances of finding work in the future.

In most schools the length of classes is between 45 and 90 minutes. Starting with a short warmer activity the topic is set for the duration, next students normally work through some worksheets or a book with a couple of activities to enrich the experience and maintain their interest. Towards the end there is usually an activity that offers them the chance to demonstrate what they learn during the lesson.

Teaching is largely about being the right teacher rather needing the right students. Almost always the students come to the class with a strong desire to learn English and demonstrate with with gusto. Almost always teachers who can enter a class with a broad smile exit the class with the students all feeling good about their experience.

With language classes there is rarely a huge problem with discipline. Sometimes the energy levels can be much higher and this can require a slightly firmer approach but this is all part of developing as a teacher. The teacher just needs to reflect on their own youth when they were brimming with energy and how entering a classroom was an anti-climax to having fun. There is a solution to this, ensure that the students have fun and that attending your classes is a special experience. If they have the energy to run around outside then do that. The only thing that is important is that they use English when they are playing and learn a new word or grammar structure every time.

Teaching experience and qualifications are a bonus rather than a requirement. Those with the most experience will find it much easier to secure work and get the best deals while those who are just starting will need to be less picky where they work. Agencies and websites can help find the right positions although most people find work within a few weeks of looking. The demand for teachers is so high that finding work is rarely a problem.
