Who Needs IVF Treatments?
In-vitro fertilization was originally developed as a procedure that would help women who had either blocked or damaged fallopian tubes to conceive a child. The process skirts the fallopian tubes completely, because eggs are removed from the ovaries and inserted back into the womb as embryos. Because the fallopian tubes need not be bothered during this procedure, it has always been a great help for women who have scarring or other blockage problems of their tubes. Couples can search for the term, “fertility clinic” or “infertility treatment,” to more about their options.
In the modern era, in-vitro fertilization is more commonly used to bypass a wide scope of fertility issues. Women who have difficulty ovulating or who suffer from endometriosis often undergo this procedure, and women with unexplained fertility issues can get around their problems with IVF. The science surrounding the procedure has even been developed to be used to cure male fertility issues. But how do people know if they need IVF or not? It is sometimes the case that a couple who has been trying to get pregnant finds that it is not happening. Anyone who is worried that they may be infertile can take a number of tests to determine whether or not there is a problem. Often a test will reveal whether there is a measurable issue, but sometimes the answer is not one that can be plainly understood. If no cause can be found for a fertility issue, IVF is still an option.
A couple may have to undergo a lengthy series of tests to understand what the problem is, or if there even is one. These may go on for weeks or even months, as appointments with the doctor may be hard to get. Unfortunately, there is a lot of waiting involved during this testing period. If a fertility problem is detected and you do become a candidate for in-vitro fertilization, you may be inspired to rush right into the process especially after all of that waiting. But it is better to stop and think about whether there’s anything else you can do, as well as whether in-vitro is really the right choice for you.
In-vitro is not exactly a risky procedure, and therefore not a cause for a lot of concern. But if you have your doubts about whether it is right for you, perhaps you should exhaust your options before turning to IVF. There are other types of procedures one may undergo outside of IVF though these may not be suitable for every type of fertility issue. Obviously, the nature of the treatment depends on the problem at hand. If a fertility issue is a hormonal one, drug treatments may be a feasible option. Such regimens help regulate a woman’s menstrual cycle, helping her to ovulate on time each month. Drugs may also be issued to men who have a low sperm count, though this is not really a common practice.
Not everyone can easily conceive a child, but new technology surrounding in-vitro fertilization has been very helpful in overcoming this problem. Not everyone can afford these procedures, so it is important to know about all of the options.
