Great Tips For Effective Yet Simple Weight Loss
Weight loss is one of the biggest challenges people face. Though not everyone deals with excess body weight, the average person would feel better and boost their health if they lost a few pounds. Some people have a serious amount of weight to lose in order to reduce their risk for disease, injury, and illness. Losing weight can be tough, but there are plenty of effective, yet simple solutions for weight loss. Depending on your weight issues, you might need to do more or less, but these simple tips are a great place to start your weight loss journey.
Cut Hidden Calories
Once you start keeping track of calories, you will quickly realize how many hidden calories you consume. The average person can cut a couple hundred calories from their diet with very little effort. Lower calorie replacements are an option for many people. Others just cut back here and there without feeling any sacrifice. Do you put two sugars in your coffee in the morning? Cut back to one, or better yet, switch to a no-calorie, natural sweetening alternative. Have you developed an afternoon soda habit? Cut out the high calorie caffeine boost for something that packs the same caffeine punch without the calories, like green tea or black coffee.
Reduce Portion Size
Those eating the standard American diet are overeating every single day. We have become so accustomed to heaping portions, we feel cheated when served actual healthy servings. If cutting back to standard servings is too much all at once, just make small cuts. Fill your plate as you normally would and then return two or three spoonfuls to the cooking pot. If you are dining in a restaurant, ask for a to-go box as soon as your meal is served. You can also share a few bites with someone else at the table. You will barely notice the missing food, but you will be cutting 50 to 100 calories with every couple of bites.
Increase Physical Activity
If you feel like cutting your food intake will be too tough or you have already made as many cuts as you are willing to make, add physical activity to the mix. Exercise increases your metabolism, which helps you burn calories. You can afford to eat a little more when exercising, so if you are feeling cheated on your diet, add ten to fifteen minutes of exercise to your daily routine. You can include an extra snack during the day to curb your hunger, but not have to deal with weight increases because you are burning off the calories.
Make Weight Loss Fun
One of the simplest ways to achieve weight loss is to make the entire process fun. Learn to cook new foods and sample a variety of healthy ingredients. If you are pressed for time during the week, prepare a healthy meal over the weekend and enjoy the leftovers during the week. Find exercise activities that are fun and do not feel like work. The more fun you have adjusting to your new healthy lifestyle, the easier it will be to lose weight.
Buddy Up
Finally, look for support. Chances are you have a family member or friend who also needs to lose a few pounds. Team up and motivate one another. The competition and camaraderie is a simple way to achieve effective weight loss.
