After the surgical prep, the area to be incised will be injected with anesthesia and epinephrine. The first is to locally numb the area, while the latter will help reduce the bleeding because it is a vasoconstrictor.

The first incision is made just above your pubic mound. If you are having a mini tummy tuck, this will be the only one required. But for a full tummy tuck, the incision will extend from hip bone to hip bone, another will also be made around your navel.

The surgeon now has access to your abdominal muscles. With that he/she now sutures the fascia in order to bring them closer together. With a full tummy tuck procedure, your surgeon will place drainage tubes through small incision into your abdomen. Through negative pressure, this will help drain out fluids that may accumulate after. It will prevent swelling, which can delay the healing process.
