Women and First Aid Training – 3 Things You Should Know

According to the Hippocratic Oath that all doctors take upon their graduation, they promise to preserve life and treat their patients to the best of their ability. This maxim applies to all the levels of medical treatment offered to people in need worldwide, by all the various people who offer such help. These practitioners range from the most highly qualified specialists, to doctors, interns, nurses and nurse aids and all the way down to those who have simply done first aid training. It does not matter on which level you are, the important thing to bear in mind is that each and every person with some sort of medical training is capable of saving a life, and there is nothing more important than that.

There are 3 very good reasons for women to enrol on a course of first aid training, and they are:

– The first and most important reason as stated above is that, once trained, anyone – man or woman – will be able to save a life in an emergency. As there is nothing more precious than life, this ability outweighs any other form of learning or study which you may do in your lifetime.

– Second, women tend to be homemakers and there are many who do not have to go to work. Thus, they are able to stay at home to attend to the tasks of housekeeping and the raising of children. This type of lifestyle does, however, allow quite a bit of free time during the day and is thus good opportunity arises to do some studying to make good use of this spare time.

– Third, a woman’s basic nurturing and caring nature is well suited to the demands of first aid training and its implementation, if and when it every becomes necessary.

During the course of study for a certificate in first aid training, both men and women will be taught to deal with any number of medical emergencies and occurrences. One of the most commonly used techniques which will be taught and which is used in hundreds of thousands of instances daily all over the world is that of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, more commonly known as CPR. This procedure is used when someone stops breathing, usually because of a heart attack or stroke, and ensures that the blood continues to be pumped through the body, especially to the brain, until professional help arrives.

The simple action of pushing down rhythmically on a victim’s chest to keep the blood flowing and therefore oxygen reaching the brain has saved millions of lives worldwide over many years. And in the past, this procedure was accompanied by rhythmic breathing into the victim’s mouth as well, but it has recently been established that this action does not add to the success rate of CPR.

Just think about it. By knowing exactly where to place your hands on a victim’s chest and performing CPR until an ambulance or doctor arrives, could be the difference between life and death for the patient and your first aid training will allow you to take control of such an emergency.
