Verifi Bed Bug Detectors

As you probably have read in the news, there is new epidemic called bud bugs that is spreading faster than fire. Fueled by international travel, bed bugs are now everywhere people are, and this includes transportation, such as trains, planes, buses, and even cars. Even worse, bed bugs settle for dinner where people rest, such as hotels, motels, movie theaters, and of course, homes. It is getting worse every year as people are becoming more mobile.

As pest control professionals scramble to find techniques to control bed bugs, the battle against bed bugs is ever-evolving. One reason is due to bed bug\’s ability to become immune to certain classifications of insecticides. As this trend continues, bed bug product manufacturers have have had to become more and more creative in finding bed bug infestations before they get a foot-hold in a dwelling.

Logic is, if you can catch the infestation in the beginning stages, you can shut them down faster. But the biggest problem is that bed bugs are nocturnal. They strike when you sleeping, so it may be several weeks before you even know that you have them. In fact, there is a widespread of misdiagnosis out there of bed bug bites simply because doctors do not know what the bites look like, or the patient has a different reaction than another patient when bitten from bed bugs.

The latest buzz in bed bug control is centered around a concept called bed bug detectors. As an example, there is a new, fast working bed bug monitor called the Verifi bed bug detector. This amazing product is changing the way bed bugs are detected, monitored, and treated. It works on three tiers, taking advantage of bed bug\’s natural instincts, to forage for hosts, and their desire to congregate. The concept is an amazing one; you use the bug\’s instincts against themselves.

Here is the science: bed bugs have two basic instincts. The first is to find a host, or food source if you prefer. This obviously means a person or animal with warm blood. After finding a food source, the bed bugs release a chemical that reminds them where the meal source is. In addition, bed bugs are very social in that they like to \”cluster\” or huddle together. They simply release a pheromone that signals to other bed bugs where to \”hang-out\”.

Taking these three instincts into consideration, the Verifi bed bug detector has three lures. To imitate a host to feed on, the detector has a CO2 cartridge that releases carbon dioxide for twenty-four hours. This seduces bed bugs to come to the detector, simply to find food.

If this is not enough, this new science includes a Aggregation Pheromone that plays on the desire to find other bed bugs. Then a liquid \”Kairomone\” releases the scent of a previous feeding location. These three lures, combined, make the bed bug capture rate go off the chart. Nothing has been seen like it in bed bug management, ever.
