Advantages of Laser Printers
Big and small businesses require office supplies in order to succeed. These are consumables used in the office to perform various tasks. They include small items used daily such as paper, paper clips and pens. They also include expensive equipment such as photocopiers, computers and printers. There is a wide range of printers available in the market today.
A printer is a machine that is attached to a computer. It produces a hard copy of documents or graphics stored in the computer. The hard copy is usually produced on transparencies or on paper. The output of a printer can be either low or high depending on the model. The printers available are either ink printers or laser printers.
A laser printer produces high quality graphics and text rapidly on all types of paper. It uses xerographic technology whereby text is produced through scanning of some laser beams across its photoreceptor. It uses a laser cartridge which is filled with coloured or black and white toner. Toner is a dry ink powder that forms printed images and text of paper.
There are many advantages of laser printers. Firstly, these printers are faster than the ink printers. Their speed varies depending on the make and the graphic intensity of the printouts. Some black and white laser printers can produce as many as 12,000 pages per hour. The colour ones can produce about 6,000 pages per hour. This means that these printers are ideal for small businesses and large organizations.
The other advantage is that they are very economical in the long run. Toner is generally cheap and one toner cartridge can produce thousands of copies. The user has also the option of buying an original cartridge, a generic one or going for refills. A generic cartridge is re-manufactured by a third party and sold using a different brand name. It is usually cheaper than the original one and provides high quality printouts. Refills are also very cheap as all the consumer requires is to purchase toner in bulk and a refill kit.
The laser printer has precision and therefore produces high quality printouts. The diameter of its laser beam is wide and this enables it to draw precisely without spillage of excess ink. Many of them have page count which alerts the user when the toner levels are low. This ensures that the quality of the printouts is not compromised and that there is continuity of work.
These printers can print on all types of paper including plain, coloured and glossy paper. They can therefore perform almost any printing task including printing of banners, business cared, logos, invitations and logos among others. Some of the models can perform extra tasks like stapling, punching and collating pages. Others have duplex features which enable them to print on both sides of the paper thus saving on paper.
Laser printers are among the most essential office supplies in any size of business. These printers are fast, efficient, economical and produce high quality work. Their cost has reduced drastically in recent years and more people can now afford them. It is projected that their performance will continue to improve while their prices continue to drop due to technology advancement.
