How to Reduce the Tightness of a Clip on Earring?
Clip on earrings, which are sometimes called clip earrings, can be uncomfortable when worn, especially in terms of being too tight. This is one of the reasons why many women are still hesitant to wear clip earrings because of the discomfort that comes with having pinched earlobes. Then again, why worry about too-tight clip earrings when there are many ways to adjust these pieces of jewellery to enjoy better comfort?
Before making the adjustments, however, it is important to note that a little change makes a big difference in clip earrings. You should apply gentle pressure and perform gradual adjustments when loosening tight clip earrings. Otherwise, you risk damaging the delicate structure of the earrings or making the earrings so loose these will easily fall off your ears.
Also, the type of adjustments necessary in loosening too-tight clip on earrings depends on the kind of attachment on the earring. Let’s discuss a few of these adjustments.
First, the paddle back clip is the most common attachment with the added benefit of easy adjustment. Locate the so-called tongue of the clip earrings, insert tweezers underneath it, and then slightly raise it – emphasis on slightly while also being gentle in doing so. A metal file tip will also do the trick when tweezers are unavailable.
Try on the clip on earrings to see if it feels comfortable on your earlobes. If your earlobes can now take the pressure, use a pair of pliers to pinch in the clip earrings’ holder at the side. This should then tighten the holes and ensure that the paddle clip stays on where it should be.
The simple clips on clip earrings have higher risks for falling off the ears than, say, screw back clips and paddle backs. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, loosen the simple clip by either broadening or bending the bottom of the clip’s U portion. You may also pinch the clip’s back portion near its top, thus, lessening the space. The main aim is to improve comfort and find a level that suits you best.
There are also the clip on earrings with hinged screw back clips as attachments. Just adjust the screw in a gentle and gradual manner until the clip earrings are securely and comfortably in place. Use the hinged portion to put on and take off the earrings without readjusting the screw.
As for clip earrings with magnets, you will require moleskin and super glue not to adjust the earrings but to lessen the magnetic pull. Look at the magnetic earrings and you will observe magnets set both in front and back. Cover the back magnet with a piece of moleskin first but when the earrings are still too tight, cover the front magnet as well.
It takes very little by way of time, effort and money to adjust too-tight clip on earrings. Always make sure to try on the earrings after every adjustment until you are comfortable with wearing these pieces of jewellery for extended periods.
