One drawback about quercetin is that it is not soluble in water. This means that poor absorption by the body can limit its benefits. It is therefore suggested that quercetin for allergies be taken with bromelain in order to improve the chances of absorption. Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme which can be obtained from pineapples. It can be used to improve the absorption of compounds like antibiotics. Bromelain is also an inhibitor of other inflammatory mediators that include fibrin and bradykin. This substance has been greatly used in reducing pain due to swelling of sprains, bruises or muscle tears.
How can we obtain quercetin in order to fight allergies?
Consume foods that are known to contain quercetin. These foods include apples, red onions, blueberries, broccoli, green and black tea and also red wine. Quercetin can also be obtained by eating raw honey. Eating a tablespoon daily is enough to give you the correct amount to keep you going for the whole day, keeping away allergies. Quercetin is also available as supplements which can be in various forms – pills, capsules or powder.
You can also combine vitamin C or bromelain with quercetin. Either of these combinations has been found effective in fighting allergies.
