Emergency Plumbing – When to Call

The story is an old one, a family goes to sleep at night and everything seems to be in order, then out of the blue a crashing sound is heard. Upon inspection it is noticed that a pipe has burst and water is filling the first level of a home, and help is needed immediately. Phone calls are made and a great variety of plumbers do not work past a certain hour, and panic sets in. That’s when an emergency plumbing service is called and the tradesman jumps into action to help the pipe stop and then create a solution for the homeowner. This scenario is not uncommon in today’s world, as many don’t do regular checkups on their pipes or anything along those lines. In fact, if you took a poll of homeowners, many of them would not even know the status of their pipes. This issue can be prevented on many levels, but it requires a bit of planning.

An emergency situation is often times not preventable, as it can be caused by normal wear and tear or just any random act. However, a plan of action when things go wrong can be made at any given time. It’s important for a family to sit down and go over a plan that will go into effect when a plumbing emergency happens. The easiest thing to do for this is to set up a piece of paper with specialized phone numbers to call in case something goes wrong in the home. The numbers should be for medical as well as businesses that can help 24 hours a day in case something breaks.

If you have a plan of action ahead of time, when the water starts to fill in the basement or clear out the living room, you’ll be able to act fast and possibly save your furniture, home and valuables. The last thing that you want to do in the case of a rising tide of water from a broken pipe or an overflowing toilet is panic. When panic sets in a whole new anxiety fills the mind, and things can get really cloudy. When you first see or hear an issue, stay calm and react according to plan.

Emergencies do not occur from 9 to 5 daily. They often times come up like a thief in the night, while no one is looking, and everyone has their guard down. It can be easy to neglect the home when you live in it and nothing ever goes awry. However, there is going to be that one night, the one where you’re too tired to do any checks, where you just want to get to bed and the status quo is all you want, it’s in that moment that something will go wrong and you need to be alert.

When all else fails, planning, alertness, and just being lucky won’t help you. The best method of attack is to call emergency plumbing services to come out immediately. The quicker you can call, the faster someone can come in and rescue you from what could be serious disaster.
