Houston 4 Oddest Nightclub Drinks For You

For a lot of people, going out to a nightclub isn’t just about dancing or finding some good nightlife chat at the club or bar. Sometimes we just want to kick back, relax and have a good drink. Other times we want to sit at the bar without friends, go crazy, and try drinks we never even heard of and see what happens. My friends and I have done this many times, and have had some mixed results with what we have ended up drinking. Based on my recommendations, I think these are four of the oddest drinks you are going to find at any nightclub you go to.

The first one that I can think of is referred to as the Prairie Oyster. Okay, just the name is probably enough to scare most people away, and you likely are not going to find this at your standard nightclub. This drink is a mix of – are you ready? – Bourbon, Tabasco sauce and a raw egg. Somehow we talked one of my buddies into trying this one out one night. He chugged it down and then raced to the bathroom and stayed there for half an hour.

Many of you may be familiar with the next drink, and you may have even been tricked into trying it just like I had been. This one is called the Cement Mixer. It’s not so much the taste you have to worry about with this one, but the texture that you get. You take some lime juice in your mouth and swirl it around and then take a shot of Bailey’s or other Irish cream liqueur. The lime juice curdles the cream liqueur, making a chunky paste in your mouth that hardens and sticks to everything. You only get tricked into this one once.

Then there is the drink known as Nyquil. We all know the cold and flu treatment product by this name and how it knocks you right out. Well this drink won’t knock you right out, but you may wish it had. It certainly looks, smells and tastes just like Nyquil with its combination of triple sec, grenadine and Sambuca all in one. Make sure you drink something else right after this to try and wash the flavor out.

One of my personal favorites has to be the Flaming Dr. Pepper. There is no Dr. Pepper at all in this drink, but it sure does taste like one. In this drink, a shot glass is layered with Amaretto and some other high alcohol liqueur, like 151 proof rum. The shot is then lit on fire and dropped into a mug of beer and you chug it down. I had two of these one night and then promptly tried to walk out a plate glass window instead of the front door.

If you sit at the bar long enough and get engaged in some nightlife chat, you will war stories from all kinds of people and bartenders about weird drinks to try. My recommendation is bring along a friend who is gullible enough to try anything. He can be your guinea pig and then you can remember the names of all these drinks not to try the next time.
