There are hundreds of things to do in Houston at night. Maybe not all of them will suit your tastes, and there are likely to be some places that you really would not want to go to if you have a choice. There are sometimes, however, where you lose the ability to choose and your friends just whisk you away somewhere. It is at these times when you realize that there are some pretty crazy nightlife spots that you can end up waking up at the next day and wonder how the heck you got there. Now I am not talking about your typical things that can happen to you if you have had a pretty wild night. Some of these can include waking up at a stranger\’s house, a jail cell, or even on a bus to Fresno (yes, this has happened to me before). All of that stuff seems pretty ordinary in the big scheme of things.

I was thinking more about some of the crazy nightlife spots where you wake up the next morning and you are still there. Of course this could happen at some of the after-hours clubs that are all over the place and party on into the wee hours of the morning. Some of those parties can get pretty crazy and you can find yourself waking up under a table someplace wearing a party hat and clown make-up (don\’t ask).

There was this one time where we went to this country and western bar. It was already late at night, and I do remember getting there, but I was pretty tired by the time we arrived. I remember doing a couple of shots of whiskey with my buddies. The next thing I remember, I woke and I was inside a teepee that they had set up in the bar. I peeked out and saw the place was emptied out. I didn\’t want to set off any alarms, so I just went back to sleep and got up when someone showed up to open up.

I think I have pretty much woken up at every all night restaurant and convenience store in the area, but they aren\’t really crazy nightlife spots. The really crazy ones are the ones where you have to blink three or four times because you can\’t believe what you see around you. Usually when it happens to me, I just make sure I have my wallet and cell phone so I can call a cab and get out of wherever I am.

I never worry about finding things to do in Houston at night. If I don\’t find somewhere to go, the spot usually finds me somehow. Of course, I only have myself to blame for all of it, but it will make one heck of a book someday!
