After having spent so much time going to bars, dance clubs and nightclubs, there is not much about what occurs there that I could really consider shocking anymore. The nightlife in Houston offers up a lot of different things to those of us who take part in it. There are still some things that happen though that can even shock a grizzled veteran like me.

When I first starting to go out to the bars and clubs in the city, it seemed like I would get shocked by an awful lot of things. It didn’t take much to shock and surprise me and I couldn’t believe some of the things that people would do in public places. Over time, that wore off to the point where it takes a lot to shock me now.

You know how you used to get surprised if a girl would come into the men’s room to use it because the line was too long in the ladies’ room? That pretty much happens at every bar and club anyway now, so it’s really no big surprise. There is still something that can surprise you though.

There was one time recently when I was in the bathroom at a bar when a young lady in a dress walked in looking to use the bathroom. I didn’t think anything of it and had walked over to the sink to wash my hands. I have to admit I was surprised when she walked up to a urinal, lifted up her dress and went to the bathroom. Turns out the lady was not really a lady at all. I stood there a little shocked at first, then finished washing my hands and left.

You’re always a little shocked when find something other than booze floating in one of your drinks. It just makes you think about what you didn’t see that you may have already swallowed. I have seen all kinds of nasty things turn up in glasses – hair, fingernails, bugs – you name it. You learn to look first before you take that first sip.

One thing that still brings a shocked look to just about everyone’s face is the women who come to the dance clubs wearing practically nothing. It seems each year there are more and more women wearing next-to-nothing at thinking anything about it. It’s hard not to notice it or be shocked that a person could leave their home and not feel at all modest about the way they happen to be dressed that night.

I am sure there are many horror stories involving shocking things that people have come across during their time out and about in the nightlife in Houston. To be honest, I prefer not to pay attention to a lot of what I hear. A lot of it may just be rumor and if some of these things are true, I would rather not know about them. Just let me drink and dance in peace please.
