I wish I could say that everything about going out on the weekends and having a good time happened to me all the time. Unfortunately, it just doesn\’t work out that way. It seems lately I have been in something of a bad cycle where I meet up with a girl, we date and have a good time for a few weeks, and then, WHAM! I get blindsided and it\’s all over. The thing is, it seems to happen to me a lot and it seems to happen at very particular types of places. I am always surprised that with the nightlife in Houston there are still special nightlife places where you might get dumped.

The number one type of place where this is likely to happen is, of course, a nice romantic restaurant. I can\’t tell you how many times I have put my best suit on, picked up my lady friend and gone to a very fancy place. We sit in a nice, quiet, candlelit corner table and she eats a wonderful (and usually expensive) meal, and then dumps me as the check arrives.

Another favorite place for me to get dumped seems to be the dance clubs. I don\’t know what it is about the clubs themselves, but the women I am with seemed to feel empowered by them. Maybe it\’s because there are more females there that they can bond with, or they just figure they can get away easily into the crowd, but whatever it is, girls seem to dump me and then dance away without blinking an eye there.

There are two places that I really hate getting dumped, but since I don\’t seem to have much of a say in when it happens, they inevitable turn up on my list. One is when we go out to the movies. Now I know it\’s not a big nightlife spot, but there\’s nothing worse than getting halfway into the latest romantic comedy that we went to see because she just had to see it instead of the latest action flick and then twenty minutes into a two-hour snooze fest she tells me she wants to see other people, gets up and leaves.

The other place is at an outdoor street fair. I don\’t go to a lot of these, mainly because I am not a big fan, but I have two girlfriends drag me along. It\’s a nice experience I guess and there\’s plenty to do, but it\’s hard to get excited about standing in front of mimes and clowns and have them act out your girlfriend breaking up with you. I chased one mime for six blocks before he finally got away from me.

Whenever you are out and about in the nightlife in Houston with your girlfriend, I guess you run the risk of getting dumped. It can happen anywhere at any time. My best advice is to make sure you either always drive or make sure you have enough money for cab fare to get back home yourself.
