Maverick Helicopters – The 5-Star Way to See Grand Canyon

There are a lot of options when it comes to seen the Grand Canyon by helicopter. But for discerning travelers looking for a 5-star experience, it\’s Maverick Helicopters all the way.

There are number of reasons why Maverick is the luxury flight leader. The first that comes to mind is the EcoStar 130. Maverick, you see, only uses this aircraft whereas competitors use a mix of it and lesser helicopters.

The advantages of the EcoStar are multiple, but the key ones include the fact that they come with 25 percent more cabin space, stadium-style seating and a huge wrap-around windshield (perfect for photographers!). These machines are also equipped with special rotors that cut down on noise.

Then there\’s the customer service. Many overlook this but it\’s essential to the experience. It starts when you book your flight (which I recommend doing entirely online for cost-saving reasons…more on this later). You\’ll receive a confirmation email first, and then as your flight date approaches, you\’ll receive a phone call.

The folks in customer service are well trained and can resolve any issues you may have. Case in point is the weight surcharge. Many don\’t know that passengers who exceed 300 pounds will be charged additionally on top of the original price. Customer service can adroitly run you through this policy and put your mind at ease.

Or, in the event that you have to update your plans and re-arrange your flight, the folks behind the scenes at Maverick can quickly assist you with that as well (there\’s no additional fee tacked on if you change your plans as long as you do it within 24 hours of departure).

All Maverick flights take off from the Las Vegas Strip. Most travelers assume this is the case for all tour operators but that\’s not true. Many depart from Boulder City and Henderson, two cities on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Maverick\’s Strip departures also ensure that you fly over the Vegas skyline when you return.

The company offers aerial and landing trips. The aerial ones go over Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and the canyon before coming back to Vegas. Landing tours alight on the top or bottom of the West Rim. For the money, I recommend the bottom-landing tour. It comes with a Champagne picnic and the views are incredible.

(It needs to be noted that all Las Vegas helicopters, including Maverick, fly only to the WEST RIM. To get to the South Rim for a heli ride, I suggest you take an airplane flight, which will get you there in less than 60 minutes).

Maverick’s tours aren’t the cheapest. But if you want the best you have to pay for it, right? That being said, there are ways to save a few bucks on their tours. First is booking ahead of time. That ensures that you don’t get gouged with price increases because you have to fly “now!” Next, always book on the Internet. That’s where Maverick’s best prices are and you are entitled to them just as mush as anyone else. Follow those two steps and I’m confident you’ll have the experience of a lifetime.
